A Day at Solmar Golf Links: Where Golf Meets the Pacific
I recently had the opportunity to play a round at Solmar Golf Links, formerly known as Rancho San Lucas, and it was an experience that truly stands out. Located just 15 minutes from Cabo San Lucas, this Greg Norman-designed course offers one of the most stunning golfing environments I’ve encountered. The Pacific Ocean is visible from every hole, making each shot feel like you’re part of the landscape itself.
Ranked #3 among the Best Golf Resorts in Mexico and Central America, Solmar Golf Links is much more than just a course—it’s a journey through three distinct ecosystems. The front nine weaves through windswept dunes and a cactus forest, while the back nine hugs the coastline, offering breathtaking ocean views and the dramatic island green at the par-3 17th hole. I found myself constantly pausing, not just to strategize for the next shot, but to take in the beauty of the surroundings.
At 7,210 yards from the back tees, this links-inspired course offers plenty of challenges for seasoned players, especially with the influence of ocean breezes. However, the layout also accommodates golfers of all levels, thanks to wide landing areas and minimal rough, allowing for enjoyable play regardless of skill. The Seadwarf Paspalum turf adds to the experience, encouraging ground-game strategies often seen on traditional links courses.
What really sets Solmar apart is its attention to detail—from the perfectly maintained fairways to the luxurious comfort stations scattered throughout the course. The resort itself, Grand Solmar at Rancho San Lucas, complements the experience with its world-class amenities, making this a must-visit destination for golfers.
If you’re ever in Cabo, I highly recommend adding Solmar Golf Links to your list but prepare for some wind. Whether you’re chasing low scores or just soaking in the ocean views, this course will leave you with memories that extend far beyond your round.
